OUR PHILOSOPHY

At Ki C. Yoon Martial Arts Academy, we believe in the philosophy of 'Balance'. Balance is the attainment of equity between the body, mind, and spirit. It is that which helps an individual to define themselves clearly. It is our objective to help our students achieve Balance in their own lives through the movements of martial arts. Our academy is proud to work with many excellent individuals to achieve greatness in all corners of life.

OUR TECHNIQUES

The techniques of hapkido train the hand to be a knife and the fingers to be a spear. Along with the hand techniques is the use of abdomen breathing which centres the body's power. This is called one's "ki". Hapkido's defensive style uses the power of the opponent along with speed, pressure points, and joint locks.

There are about 270 core techniques that branch out into 4000 defensive movements. When combined with offensive movements, this results in over 100,000 martial art techniques. We believe that knowing the basic techniques well is sufficient to protect oneself from ones enemies. However, the best way to defend against a fight is to avoid one altogether. As Grandmaster Ki always says, "birds of a feather flock together," meaning that if we look for trouble it will come find us.

The essence of hapkido training in our academy is to combine authentic regimented training of the mind, body, and spirit. The focus is not for fighting but to improve ones’ health in mind, body, and spirit. Unlocking the hidden potential in people through awareness of the mind, body, and spirit is what we emphasize at our Academy. We welcome people of all ages to learn the "Martial Art Way of life".
